After 40, training smart becomes more important than training hard. Many programs ignore this reality, leading to injuries and burnout.
This program was designed specifically for the 40+ body. It respects the need for joint friendly movements while still delivering the progressive challenge required to build muscle and maintain power.
The variety built into each phase keeps workouts engaging. You will never feel stuck doing the same routine week after week. New movements and progressions keep both your body and mind challenged.
The goal is not just fitness for today, but building a foundation for decades of active, powerful living. Every workout connects to this bigger picture: feeling strong, capable, and energized in your daily life.
This program follows a 5 phase progression over 10 weeks, with 3 training days per week.
Phase 1 (Weeks 1-2) establishes movement foundations. You will learn proper patterns for squats, hinges, presses, and rows while building joint stability.
Phase 2 (Weeks 3-4) introduces unilateral training. Single leg and single arm exercises improve balance, address asymmetries, and build stability that protects your joints.
Phase 3 (Weeks 5-6) adds controlled power work. Kettlebell swings, step ups with drive, and tempo variations keep your nervous system sharp and metabolism elevated.
Phase 4 (Weeks 7-8) focuses on compound strength. Progressive loading on fundamental movements builds the muscle mass that supports your joints and daily activities.
Phase 5 (Weeks 9-10) brings everything together. You will combine strength, power, and conditioning in workouts that translate directly to real life performance.
This program is designed with your body in mind. Every movement prioritizes joint health while building real strength.
You don't need to push to failure. Aim for 1 to 2 reps in reserve on most sets. This keeps you progressing without excessive strain.
Tempo matters more than weight. Use a controlled 3 second lowering phase to maximize muscle engagement while protecting your joints.
Listen to your body. If something feels off, reduce the weight or modify the movement. Consistency over intensity is your path to lasting results.

Hey, I'm Coach Nolan!
I specialize in functional training, mobility, and circuit work. My programs are designed to improve how your body moves in real life—building strength that translates to everyday activities while keeping your joints healthy and mobile. Whether it's core development, movement quality, or sustainable fitness, I'm here to help you move better at any age.
My philosophy is simple: move well before you move heavy. Quality always comes before quantity. I break down every movement step-by-step, focusing on proper form, controlled breathing, and smooth transitions. We build a strong foundation first, then layer on intensity. Whether it's Tabata intervals, core circuits, or functional strength work, the goal is always the same: move better, feel better, live better.
Fitness is a journey, not a race. I believe in steady, sustainable progress—celebrating small wins along the way rather than chasing dramatic transformations. There's no pressure here, just consistent encouragement. When you focus on form instead of speed, when you breathe through the challenge instead of fighting it, that's when real change happens. Stay with me, trust the process, and know that you're doing great—even on the hard days.
